Same-Sex Marriage: Pandora’s Box of the 21st Century

By Bill Dolack

With Mackenzie Philip’s shocking revelation that she had a ten-year long incestual relationship with her father, John Philips of the Mamas and the Papas, just about everybody’s reaction was, “Ew. That’s disgusting.”

I’d like to ask why it’s disgusting.

Most would reply, “Because it’s unnatural,” and they’d be right. Incest IS unnatural.

My second question would be, “Why do so many people recognize that incest is wrong, unnatural, even disgusting, yet these very same people turn a blind eye to homosexuality?”

In a nutshell: public relations.

The homosexual movement has done a tremendous job over the past generation convincing the general public—and many in the Church—that there’s not really much difference between heterosexuals and homosexuals.

Except for that pesky little matter of homosexuals wanting to perform an unnatural act.

You see, society has to make a decision as to where they place the line of what’s acceptable and what’s not regarding sexual relationships. It’s easy when there’s a clear line of demarcation like one man/one woman relationships on one side and everything else on the other.

But when the line is moved to an arbitrary point—moved solely on the basis of a successful public relations campaign by the homosexual movement—not only does homosexuality become part of the accepted norm, the door is opened for all sorts of other sexual perversions to inevitably become accepted by society. Pandora’s Box, if you will, is opened to unleash its full fury.

And that sets society up for destruction.

This brings us back to the Mackenzie Philips debacle.

Since society has seen fit to accept homosexuality as “normal,” on what moral grounds does it condemn incest as wrong? Sure, you can make an argument that adult/child incest is wrong because a child can’t make an informed decision. And you can trot out the claim that a child born of an incestual relationship can suffer from physical or mental defects.

But what about consenting adults—like Mackenzie Philips and her father—especially if at least one of them is unable to produce children? Or two homosexuals/lesbians who are siblings or a parent/child… where it is impossible for them to produce offspring? If you accept homosexuality as “normal,” how can you say incest under these circumstances is wrong?

Don’t tell me that “It just is.” If you can’t come up with a definite moral difference between homosexuality and incest other than your feelings or personal beliefs, you have NO right to condemn incest.

You must logically accept incest as the moral equivalent of homosexuality, and since you already accept homosexuality as the moral equivalent of heterosexuality, you therefore are claiming incest is just as morally acceptable as committed one man/one woman relationships.

Of course, you can claim the difference is that God made homosexuals “gay.” But there is not one piece of confirmed scientific evidence that shows homosexuality is inherited. Not one. And even if you believe that fiction, why would it not apply to those who are sexually attracted to their own siblings/parents? How can you logically claim one unnatural act is God-caused while another is disgusting and wrong?

And what about polygamy? How can those who treat homosexuality as the moral equivalent of heterosexuality view polygamy as morally wrong? Perhaps God created polygamists that way. After all, if He can create men who lust after other men and want to marry each other, why not men who lust after multiple women and want to marry all of them?

Or what about bisexuals? If you believe marriage between two men or two women is legitimate, it logically follows that a bisexual should be able to marry a male and a female. If you can’t discriminate against homosexuals by banning marriage between two people of the same gender, you cannot discriminate against bisexuals by banning marriage to both a male and a female. After all, if you believe God created homosexuals with the urge to have sex with their own gender, you logically must also believe He created bisexuals with the urge to have sex with both genders. On what moral grounds would you tell bisexuals that they must go against their “God-given” attributes and force them to choose only a male or female spouse?

Do you see the conundrum? Society now tells us it’s okay for two men to have sex and for them to get married. But—illogically—that same society says it’s not all right for a “gay” man to marry two other homosexuals. Why is that threesome unacceptable for marriage while men sodomizing each other is acceptable?

And why is it forbidden for two homosexual brothers to marry? How are they any different from two non-related homosexuals who want to marry?

The fact is, the Church made a huge mistake by buying into the “homosexual rights” lie. Those who say homosexuality is a sin but believe homosexuals should have a right to civil unions or marriage are double minded, and are aiding the destruction of society. If it’s a sin—and an unnatural one at that—they must treat it as one.

Now, that doesn’t mean we are against civil rights for homosexuals. Far from it. Every American is entitled to his or her civil rights. It’s just that we are against rights and privileges being assigned on the basis of what you do rather than who you are.

For example, if an alleged serial killer is arrested, he will be afforded his constitutional rights. He’ll be read his Miranda rights, he’ll have the opportunity to get a lawyer or have one provided, he’ll have a trial before a jury of his peers, and he won’t be forced to testify against himself.

But he won’t receive rights or privileges because he’s a serial killer, because of what he does. As an American, he has rights. As a killer, no.

And it should be the same with homosexuals. He or she should have their rights as Americans, not rights for what they do sexually.

However, in today’s schizophrenic society, all people are afforded their rights because they are Americans, while certain groups of people are given additional rights because they choose to have sex with their own gender. Polygamists are not protected—yet—for desiring to marry multiple partners. Those who commit incest are not protected—yet—for desiring to have sex with a close relative.

But how can we, as a society that accepts same-sex relationships, stand on a moral soapbox and tell polygamists or those who commit incest that they’re wrong, they’re sick, they’re disgusting, when we’ve taken one of their allied groups—homosexuals—and accepted it as normal and, as many view it, good?

The answer is: We can’t.

Pandora’s Box has been opened. The vile evil contained within is being unleashed upon us at this very moment. All we can do is pray that we’re able to slam the lid shut before so much of the evil, escapes that society is forever destroyed.
