Augusta “Free” Press keeps it going

2009 June 19

After yesterday’s article lambasting me for, let me see, exercising my First Amendment rights, Augusta “Free” Press blogger Chris Graham is encouraging his supporters to “keep the fight going!”

And that’s just what he’s doing.

One supporter posted this today:

“Someone who’s defaming you to your advertisers runs the risk of being on the wrong end of a libel suit the moment that you can demonstrate that his letter resulted in the loss of a single advertising dollar. If I were you, I would get my corporate legal counsel to send him a cease-and-desist.”

To which Graham replied, “Great idea.”

Okay, let’s take a logical look at the suggestion. First of all, in order for someone to defame Graham, there would have to be some, well, defamation. There isn’t, and that’s the weak point of the poster’s suggestion.

In my email to the pastor/advertiser (whom I specifically wrote to because he is a pastor, and I thought that as a Christian he would have some concern about funding anti-Christian hate speech), I quote Graham word for word. And the allegations I made (“Chris has become virulently anti-Christian. He, like most of the liberal media, will accept passive Christians, but those that strongly support life or traditional marriage have become targets for his verbal barbs.”) are fully documented… I have kept hard copies printed from the Augusta “Free” Press, in the event Graham chose to sanitize his site.

Of course, his supporters are probably in the dark about what I said  … and what Graham said. They probably never even read his original article in which he blasted Janet Parshall.

So, for their benefit, let me quote Graham:

“Nearly 1,300 words about hatemonger Janet Parshall in Saturday’s News Leader, and the only thing the staff writer could come up with as being even the slightest bit critical is that ‘not everyone agrees’ with her to-the-right-of-Himmler stances on abortion, gay rights and faith, family and freedom.”

I’d like to ask Graham’s supporters, starting with the one who suggests that I be sent a cease-and-desist letter, do you believe it’s right to smear (yes, smear!) a woman by comparing her to a Nazi (and not just any Nazi, but one directly responsible for the deaths of muillions of Jews, Poles, and others) because you disagree with her stands on abortion, same-sex marriage, and other social issues?

If so, you scare me.

Chris Graham was so far over the top by saying this. It was inexcusable.

But if you agree with him that those who believe in the sanctity of life and traditional marriage are Nazis, then by all means, keep the fight going, as Graham implores you.

But don’t expect those of us who believe what God says in the Bible to roll over and give up. Because that just ain’t gonna happen.

    Here’s something quite ironic…

On April 7, 2009, Chris Graham posted this on the Augusta “Free” Press:

“Those who want to hear more of this filth should check out the Valley American. That’s another of Bill’s projects, and they’re looking for your support to continue to spread this hate and vitriol using your marketing dollars.”

Perhaps the Valley American should have its lawyer send Graham a cease and desist letter, like one of Graham’s supporters suggest he do to me?

    Nah.

We believe in the First Amendment.
