Boston Herald Letter to the Editor: Frank Intolerant

April 2, 2009

In branding Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia a homophobe, Rep. Barney Frank demonstrates the standard demonizing and demeaning tactics incessantly employed by social liberals (“Frank: Justice Scalia is anti-gay,” March 24).

A phobia represents an irrational fear. Neither Scalia nor the millions of other Americans opposing Frank in the gay marriage debate is afraid of gays and lesbians. Those of us who oppose a homosexual lifestyle nonetheless love and appreciate the gay and lesbian individuals we have come to know. That we do not share Frank’s opinion does not make us uneducated or unenlightened. There is no element of fear here, no phobia. There is also no need for name-calling.

As Frank preaches for tolerance and understanding, he should try leading by example.

What gives anyone the right to tell someone who they can and cannot be with? Isnt that much of what america’s freedom is all about? Life liberty and the pursuit of happiness? Religious freedom? How does it truly hurt you if a man marries another man? What is it if it is not phobia? “scared the teh gays are going to take over the world!” Well.. I think they probably want the rights everyone else has. I dont approve of their lifestyle, or the ‘we are here we are queer, get used to it’ mantra.. but they have the same rights you and I have.. the right to marry the person we love.

For you to say people arent afraid of gays and lesbians – is absolutely ridiculous… If you loved ‘gays and lesbians’ as just people and not ‘gays and lesbians’ you would afford them the same rights you and I have.. the right to marry the person they love..

Sorry, Jason, but you are way off base. The Bible is clear that homosexual relations are a sin. And not only that, it is called an abomination. Please note, I am referring to the act, not the person.
